On screen, he traverses a galaxy far, far away and hunts treasures from archeological sites across the globe. So where does Harrison Ford live in real life? The Shrinking star was born and raised in Illinois before he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his acting dream. These days, Ford still keeps a home near Hollywood, plus his longtime compound in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Below, we’re unpacking the movie icon’s homes through the years.
Childhood home
A Chicago native, Ford grew up in a three-bedroom Tudor in the suburb of Park Ridge, Illinois, with his parents and his younger brother. The future movie star lived in the dwelling’s second-largest bedroom, which featured a balcony, until graduating high school in 1960. After that, Ford attended Ripon College in Wisconsin, where he sparked his interest in acting, before moving to Los Angeles in the hopes of making it a career. In 2018, the 1922-built pad where Ford was raised came onto the market for the first time since 1970. Priced at $399,900, it had many of its original features (and plumbing!) still intact. The abode has since been updated, and most recently sold in 2022 for $680,000.
Hollywood Hills dwelling
In the ’60s and ’70s, Ford resided in a home in the Hollywood Hills. Originally built as a Forest Service lookout cabin, the 2,500-square-foot house featured beamed ceilings, a brick fireplace, and three bedrooms. During those years, he worked as a professional carpenter between acting gigs. “Everything I built is still standing,” he told Parade in 2020. To start, he honed his craft by doing the woodwork at his own dwelling, which he shared with his first wife, Mary Marquardt, and their two sons, born in 1966 and 1969. The 1911-built craftsman-style home still reportedly had much of Ford’s handiwork intact when it emerged on the market in 2006—and per listing photos, it appears that his detailed woodwork still graces the premises. “The last time that I packed up my tools to go do a movie, I had no idea I wouldn’t unpack them again,” Ford said in the 2020 interview. “And that was Star Wars.” The 1977 film made Ford a bonafide Hollywood star.
Wyoming Ranch
In 1983, the third installment of the Star Wars franchise, Return of the Jedi, hit theaters. Meanwhile, Ford was ready to put down roots outside of Tinseltown. He married his second wife, Melissa Mathison, and the two picked out an 800-acre property in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. “The first time I saw Jackson Hole, I said, ‘This is the place that’s been in my mind all the time,” Ford once said. “It was about water, streams, trees, animals, a grand expression of nature. The Tetons rising sharply from a flat, high mountain plateau…. It had everything I ever wanted.” In the late ’80s, the Blade Runner star custom-designed his own home on the property, with windows framing views of the Tetons. According to the Land Report, Contractors built the lodge while Ford was in Paris filming Roman Polanski’s Frantic. When he returned, he helped them construct a guesthouse and a spacious barn that hosts a workshop.
Though he and Mathison split in 2004, Ford still maintains this property as one of his primary residences.
Former Brentwood pad
Ford’s Wyoming retreat wasn’t the only piece of real estate that he and Mathison bought in 1983. That June, the newlyweds bought a base in Brentwood, Los Angeles, for $1 million. Designed by architect Gerard Colcord in 1951, the Colonial-style residence spanned about 7,200 square feet. There were seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms across the main house and three separate guest accommodations; a swimming pool, formal living and dining spaces, a library, a detached workshop, and terraced gardens were also found on the property.
In 2010, Ford married his third and current wife, fellow actor Calista Flockhart, and they snapped up a new pad nearby. Two years later, he sold his original Brentwood property for just under $8.2 million. It was later owned by Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel and model Miranda Kerr, who scooped it up in 2016 for $12 million and sold it in 2021 for $16.1 million.
Upper West Side duplex
Before splitting, Ford and Mathison added a New York City aerie to their collection of homes. The pair paid about $2.7 million for a unit spanning the 15th floor of the coveted condominium at 101 Central Park West in 1997. At some point, they also added on the 14th-floor unit, combining the two into a sprawling 12-room duplex. It hosted four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a dark wood paneled library with a wet bar, and plenty of windows with Central Park views.
Amidst their divorce, the exes listed the dwelling for $18 million in 2003.
Chelsea penthouse
In October 2001, the Fugitive star bought a 5,700-square-foot penthouse in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood for a hair less than $5.3 million. Spanning the entire top floor of the City Prairie building on 17th Street, the contemporary-style digs had four bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths. Reportedly, the dwelling had an open floor plan, with enviable views on all four sides visible through oversized casement windows. The primary suite boasted windows on three sides and came with a sprawling ensuite bath and custom dressing rooms. A private elevator, a 50-foot-long great room warmed by a wood-burning fireplace (and radiant heated floors), a home gym, and a library with floor-to-ceiling built-in bookshelves were among the home’s other amenities. The unit also had impressive outdoor space, with steps leading up to a window-lined pavilion that spills out onto a 2,300-square-foot roof terrace, complete with a wet bar.
Ford ultimately sold the unit in 2012 for $16 million after two years on the market.
Current Los Angeles residence
Shortly after tying the knot in 2010, Ford and Flockhart dropped $12.65 million on a freshly built abode in Los Angeles’s Mandeville Canyon. Clocking in at a sprawling 13,800 square feet, the Colonial Revival dwelling featured seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, six fireplaces, a wood-paneled library, and a game room at the time of their purchase. The primary suite came equipped with a sitting room, dual bathrooms, and a wall of built-in bookcases. A swimming pool, covered patios, and a separate cottage equipped with a screening room and a suite for guests or staff are found in the backyard.
The couple still maintain this property.
