Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement this week, about two weeks after he popped the question (and two years of courtship that ignited a tabloid frenzy). The buzzy couple shared the news of their major milestone via a joint Instagram post documenting the romantic photoshoot. The Engagement: Taylor’s Version included a dreamy assortment of foliage and an archway above festooned with pink, red, and white flowers. And after much speculation, the whereabouts of this fairytale locale have been revealed: Per the Daily Mail’s research into an expired Zillow listing, the flower-filled venue appears to be the backyard of Kelce’s very own Kansas City estate. Below, we unpack all we know about the KC mega manse and everything that went into the couple’s enchanting garden engagement.
Kelce popped the question at his $6 million suburban KC mansion
Kelce reportedly chose to propose to Swift at his $6 million home in Leawood, Kansas, an affluent suburb on the outskirts of Kansas City.
It’s a full-circle moment for the couple; the NFL star snapped up the lavish abode one month after going public with Swift in September 2023. The Chiefs tight end was in search of privacy following the news of his high-profile romance and thus settled on the 17,000-square-foot mansion, which is tucked away in a gated enclave. The castle-like dwelling, built in 1998, boasts six bedrooms and six bathrooms. It features a number of luxury amenities, including a six-car garage, a wine cellar, and an outdoor kitchen. Naturally, the athlete’s mansion is primed with multiple sporting zones, including tennis and pickleball courts, a mini golf course, and a swimming pool.
Kelce spruced up his backyard big-time
Photos of the expired listing reveal that the football star revamped the backyard of his KC mansion. The Daily Mail’s screenshots show a before-and-after, with the “before” being quite sparse—only embellished with a few potted plants, a bench, and wood chips covering the yard. The yard has clearly been transformed during Kelce’s residency, with lush greenery and a garden of florals that People reports is estimated to have cost up to $38,000; floral experts told the outlet that thousands of willow, ivy, roses—an estimated 800 pounds of greenery in total—were used for the magical setup.
Additionally, a tall archway was decked out with “mostly southern smilax vines, moss and vines with garden roses, anemone, lilies, and candles interwoven,” complete with two large concrete planters filled with “limelight hydrangea, secret garden roses, delphinium and pink surprise lilies, per People’s expert floral source. The ground installation featured rocks and a cluster of florals that framed the meadow path.
Staying local for a special moment: a KC dinner date turned proposal
Kelce is currently training in the area ahead of the 2025 NFL season. Given that he is unlikely to have much downtime to jet off elsewhere, the Chiefs player opted to keep the moment local; his mansion is a 20-minute drive from Arrowhead Stadium, where his team plays, and an hour away from the Chiefs’s training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Following the engagement post, Kelce’s dad, Ed, provided additional insights into the proposal. He revealed that his son popped the question two weeks prior to the big reveal on Tuesday, and that the two were supposed to go out to dinner before Kelce ushered the “Fortnight” singer outside into his garden. “He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine,’” Ed said.
