Levoit LVAC-300 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Upsides

  • Long run time
  • Sleek design
  • Intuitive display screen

Downsides

Limited attachments included

Specs

  • Power: Cordless
  • Dust container: Bagless
  • HEPA filter: Yes
  • Attachments: Crevice tool, mini motorized brush

While several of our editors have tested and trust Levoit products, the brand’s latest vacuum might just be our favorite of all time. Associate commerce director Lori Keong says that the LVAC-300 (an update to the brand’s LVAC-200 model) has been a huge step up for her cleaning routine. Williams tested the 200 and gave its filtration system and tangle-resistant design high remarks, and Keong says the new version maintains these qualities plus more. Other upgrades include a 60-minute runtime versus 50, and a redesigned brush assembly to keep tangling at bay.

Other perks are the advanced features. “I love that the display screen tells you exactly how much battery life is left, and I was able to vacuum the entirety of my teeny apartment, which is around 300 square feet, without even breaking 90% battery life on eco mode,” Keong says. Though the eco mode struggled to pick up a popcorn kernel, the turbo mode handled it easily. Last but not least, assembly is a breeze. If you want something with an elevated, Dyson-like design at a lower price point, Keong recommends this dustbuster: “I think it’s a great alternative for anyone who’s on a budget and wants a slightly tech-enhanced model that deconstructs for small space living.”

Bissell PowerClean FurFinder Cordless Vacuum

Upsides

  • Tangle-free brushroll
  • Affordable
  • Several helpful attachments including an upholstery tool

Downsides

Shorter run time in comparison to some other vacuums in our guide

Specs

  • Power: Cordless
  • Dust container: Bagless
  • HEPA filter: Yes
  • Attachments: Charging dock, FurFinder upholstery tool, two-in-one dusting brush and crevice tool

Senior SEO analyst Stewart Savin has gone through her fair share of vacuums to pick up after her dog Dexter’s shedding hair, dirt, and treat crumbs. That’s why she thinks the Bissell PowerClean FurFinder is a no-brainer for pet owners. It’s been a reliable appliance to transform her weekly floor cleaning, as the self-standing stick vacuum has a tangle-free illuminated head, three suction levels, and multiple attachments that can handle anything her pup throws its way. After using it across multiple types of flooring in her 1,640-square-foot home, some callouts she noted were its rechargeable design and strong HEPA filtration to collect dander and allergens. And since she’s constantly cleaning up after Dexter, the illuminated swivel steering easily reveals debris, as well as the upholstery tool and tangle-free brushroll for fur cleanup.

Best Cordless Vacuum

Upsides

  • 60-minute run time
  • Hair detangler
  • Adaptable to many floor types

Downsides

Some users have found the on/off switch uncomfortable

Specs

  • Power: Cordless
  • Dust container: Bagless
  • HEPA filter: Yes
  • Attachments: Wand, docking station, charger, mini soft dusting brush, crevice tool, hair screw tool

With a mix of vinyl, textured tile, and thick rugs in her home, commerce producer Lauren Arzbaecher knew she needed a vacuum that could transition easily across various floor types without losing suction power. That’s where Dyson’s cordless V11 comes in. It boasts adjustable settings to clean different floor types as well as a strong suction level, so much so that it surprised her at how quickly it made spilled potting soil a thing of the past when tending to her houseplants.

“The cordless experience makes using this vacuum super speedy,” Arzbaecher says, adding that the attachments are especially helpful. “I’m notorious for eating meals on the sofa, so the amount of crumbs and debris in between my couch cushions is…let’s say concerning. Dyson’s crevice and combination tools get into tight spaces easily so that I didn't have to fully remove all the cushions to get down to cleaning.” While other vacuums she’s used typically lost suction power with attachment, she says this Dyson is particularly consistent when switching away from the main cleaning head.

Best Robot Vacuum

  • Photo: Terri Williams

Upsides

  • Thorough 3D mapping technology
  • Versatile vacuum and mopping capabilities
  • Self-emptying

Downsides

It’s only recommended to use the brand’s cleaning solution

Specs

  • Power: Cordless
  • Dust container: Bagged
  • HEPA filter: No
  • Attachments: Two sets of side brushes, rolling mop, dust bag, all-in-one station

Like taking a more hands-off approach to cleaning? We’ve got you covered with the best robot vacuums on the internet’s superstore. This Eufy is our top pick for a robot vacuum that can do it all. Williams gave it a whirl and immediately loved its 3D mapping technology that helps the vacuum avoid furniture during its cleaning process.

The robot vacuum also works wonders as a mop. Williams appreciates how it “cleans without sloshing and smearing water on the floor.” The cleaner also boasts dual water tanks so it doesn't leave a trail of murky water on her hard floors. Once you’re done cleaning altogether, the vacuum cleaner can hold and auto-empty the sealed dust bag—which can hold over two months’ worth of dirt and debris—in the dock. As for the mop, the robot vacuum uses the auto-washing function and ozonated water and hard floor cleaner to clean the rolling mop.

Bottom line: “It’s quite expensive, but if you have the budget, the Eufy Omni S1 Pro Robot Vacuum is one of the best robot vacuums you can buy,” Williams says. “It has a plethora of features and functions that can make your life and your floor care process much easier.”

Best Wet-Dry Vacuum

Shark HydroVac MessMaster Cordless Wet-Dry Vacuum

Upsides

  • Self-cleaning design
  • Pivoting motorhead
  • Small charging station

Downsides

Loud when in use

Specs

  • Power: Cordless
  • Dust container: Bagless
  • HEPA filter: Yes
  • Attachments: Combination tool, docking station, wand clip, digital motorbar cleaner head, hair screw tool, drip tray, wand, charger, Fluffy Optic cleaner head, crevice tool

If you want a multifunctional vacuum that’ll mop and vacuum at the same time, turn to Shark’s HydroVac MessMaster wet-dry vacuum. Several AD team members have this cleaner and haven’t been disappointed. “Since my home is covered with tile, this Shark vacuum has been a big help in picking up and scrubbing virtually any mess that makes its way to my floors,” says senior commerce editor Nashia Baker. “I seamlessly navigate it through my home with its narrow, cordless design and pivoting motorhead to get in tight spaces.”

Baker and Williams note that this upright vacuum is incredibly intuitive to use. It has a smart display that monitors the battery life and status on how much cleaning solution you have left in the vacuum. The manufacturer recommends using the self-cleaning cycle after every use of the wet-dry vacuum. Baker says that it’s pretty quick (about 10 minutes or so) and helpful to keep the vacuum in good condition, but do keep in mind that the process is a bit noisy. While the vacuum is most helpful on hard floors, it can also help clean area rugs with ease and it comes with LED headlights to expose hidden dirt and debris.

Best Canister Vacuum

Miele Complete C3 Calima Vacuum

Miele Complete C3 Calima Vacuum

Upsides

  • Great on hardwood floors
  • Lightweight stick attachment
  • Long power cord

Downsides

Doesn’t have wheels for easy maneuvering

Specs

  • Power: Corded
  • Dust container: Yes
  • HEPA filter: Yes
  • Attachments: Crevice nozzle, dusting brush, upholstery nozzle

It might seem a little retro, but don’t overlook the cleaning power of a canister vacuum—especially Miele’s. This vacuum comes with six suction levels that can work on any floor type, though it does perform best on hardwood floors. Even if you’re hesitant about shopping for a corded cleaner, this one reaches up to 36 feet to help you go the distance. Its Turbo Brush is perfect for collecting pet hair, and the Parquet Twister floorhead has a double-swivel joint that gently cleans and maneuvers across hard surfaces.

Weighing in at 16 pounds, this canister cleaner is heavier than your average robot and stick vacuum. But since the weight sits on the floor and you only need to use the stick attachment, the feel actually mirrors more of a handheld vacuum. Once you’re done refreshing your floors, you can use the one-touch cord rewind to quickly retract the cord and keep it from knotting up.

Dyson Ball Animal 3 Vacuum

Upsides

  • Smooth glide on the vacuum’s ball design
  • Three powerful suction levels
  • Cleans on all surface types, including hard floors and carpets, spacious dustbin

Downsides

Heavier than some other vacuums in this list (17 pounds)

Specs

  • Power: Corded
  • Dust container: Bagless
  • HEPA filter: Yes
  • Attachments: Stair tool and combination tool

This is the type of vacuum that’s made for tough messes. Contributor Yelena Moroz Alpert says it works equally well on area rugs, wall-to-wall carpet, and hardwood floors, but she really couldn’t believe it when the vacuum basically saved her living room rug from the landfill. “While not big, just 4-by-6-feet, this knotted wool rug had some sort of powder that no other vacuum has been able to remove,” she says, adding that it left a snowy residue on her hardwood floors. “I first tackled the rug on the high carpet setting and could see that the bin was getting filled up with dusty debris right away,” she says, crediting the 290W suction power mode.

It’s not bad that it’s a little easier on the eyes than other upright vacuum cleaners. “Looks-wise, the Dyson Ball Animal 3 has a lovely nickel sheen, with red accents,” Alpert says. “It almost disappears into the background, which is not a bad thing.”

Best Handheld Vacuum

Shark WANDVAC Cord-Free Handheld Vacuum

Upsides

  • Lightweight (one pound)
  • Bagless vacuum design
  • Comes with a couple of attachments to get in crevices without trouble

Downsides

Our tester says sometimes the vacuum can glitch and accidentally turn off while cleaning

Specs

  • Power: Cordless
  • Dust container: Bagless
  • HEPA filter: Yes
  • Attachments: Duster crevice tool and mattress tool

“I’ve been far too long without a handheld vacuum, something that’s easily rechargeable and accessible for post-cooking mayhem (see: garlic sleeves all over the floor) and those dust bunnies that will not stop accruing in every corner of my bedroom,” says commerce writer Julia Harrison. “I reach for this vacuum in those occasions and a million others: too much hair on the bathroom floor, too much hair on the couch, too much hair on my doormat.”

The beauty of this hand vacuum is that you can zip across your floors without straining yourself—it’s just one pound and lasts for 10 minutes straight on a single charge. “For anyone who’s prone to shedding, it’s a must-have,” Harrison adds. “It has an easy one-button press, a quick recharge, and an easy empty bin function.”

LG CordZero Q3 Cordless Stick Vacuum

Upsides

  • Optional wall mount to free up floor space for storage
  • Comes with a washable HEPA filter
  • Built-in LED headlight
  • Real-time suction power adjustments based on the floor type

Downsides

Our tester says it was confusing at first to figure out where to plug in the cord into the charging station/wall mount

Specs

  • Power: Cordless
  • Dust container: Bagless
  • HEPA filter: Yes
  • Attachments: Crevice tool

Stick vacs like this one are hard to beat, especially because LG’s has a detachable cordless handheld vacuum feature to get in all those narrow parts in the house. Alpert uses this crevice attachment most to clean the dust that collects between the balusters of her hardwood stairs. Attachments aside, the vacuum as a whole is a steal for the price. It’s so easy for everyday cleaning that Alpert calls it her “grab-and-go vacuum because it’s perfect for picking up little messes, like sprucing up my kitchen by running it under the counters or near the garbage bin, and definitely for after-dinner crumbs.” It’s lightweight (just about five pounds), has a 60-minute run time on a full charge, and has sensors that automatically tell the difference between carpet and hard floors and adjust the suction power accordingly.

iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO (3554) Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum

Upsides

  • Self-emptying
  • Easy to use app
  • Thorough clean with no effort required

Downsides

  • Can’t get into tighter spaces
  • Run time can take over an hour to complete

Specs

  • Power: Cordless, lithium ion battery
  • Dust container: Bagged
  • HEPA filter: No
  • Attachments: All-in-one charging and emptying station

This advanced Roomba has been a huge help in one small package for Arzbaecher, who has been using it more frequently on cleanup jobs in her large apartment with ample square footage. “This small but mighty robot vacuum keeps up with the seemingly endless amount of hair that builds up on the floors of a home with three women living in it, and it is a big time-saver when it comes to cleaning.” What’s more, it is designed to detect the dirtiest areas of your floors and give them an even more thorough clean.

The Roomba’s ability to clean across the assorted rugs without getting stuck has been a big standout, according to Arzbaecher, and her favorite add-on is the app that controls the vacuum. “The interface is easy to use, with options to send it on runs around the entire space or target specific areas,” she says. “Being able to activate the vacuum even when I’m away has also been a game changer. Who doesn’t want to come home to a freshly cleaned apartment?” Those who like to personalize their appliances can even name their vacuum in the app. Arzbaecher and her roommates chose the name Dolly—“because she’s working 9 to 5 to keep our home sparkling.”

While this model is one of the pricier iRobot offerings, the brand does offer promotions on it throughout the year, especially during Amazon’s sale events. For the time Arzbaecher has regained from not having to vacuum her home, she considers it a worthwhile purchase.

Tineco Floor ONE Switch S7 Cordless Stick Vacuum

Upsides

  • Self-cleaning and self-drying
  • Converts to handheld

Downsides

Pricey

Specs

  • Power: Cordless
  • Dust container: Bagless
  • HEPA filter: Yes
  • Attachments: ZeroTangle brush, a mini power brush for soft surfaces, a two-in-one crevice dusting brush, and a replacement brush roller

This ultra-slim vacuum is another AD favorite for its versatility mopping and vacuuming on either carpets or hardwoods, with an additional LED headlight for additional visibility. “What makes the Tineco Floor ONE Switch S7 so unusual is that it includes one battery that can be swapped out between the wet-dry vacuum and the floor washer,” says Williams. It also has an iLoop feature that detects debris levels and adjusts suction accordingly, as well as a zero-tangle brush to prevent hair clogging.

You also get a two-in-one combo deal, as the cordless stick vacuum converts to a handheld vacuum cleaner for digging into crevices and deep cleaning upholstery. Another cool feature is that the floor washer self-cleans dirty water by heating it to 158 degrees Fahrenheit to kill bacteria and odors and uses fresh water to clean hard floors.

How We Tested the Best Vacuums on Amazon

From carpets to hardwoods, our editors test the best Amazon vacuums by actually using them to clean the floors in our homes. Aside from floor type, our team shops for options that specifically suit our lifestyles. For instance, pet parents keep an eye out for Amazon vacuums that come with tangle-free brushes to trap loose fur without clogging the motorhead. And those who like an easygoing cleaning experience opt for robot vacuums to clean every corner and crevice around the house.

Here are additional factors we weigh to determine the best vacuums on Amazon for our spaces and yours:

Vacuum Type: Amazon offers countless vacuums on its site, but the most common types you’ll find are cordless stick, robot, wet-dry, handheld, and canister. While the option you choose is largely up to your preference, take note of these key factors to help inform your next buy:

  • Cordless stick: Cordless stick vacuums are typically lightweight and narrow to allow you to get in hard-to-reach or high places, like ceilings.
  • Robot: This vacuum type is ideal for those who like hands-off and scheduled cleanings, as robot vacuums offer 3D mapping to identify where and what to clean.
  • Wet-dry: If you have hard floors, wet-dry vacuums are helpful to polish surfaces and rid them of debris and stains at the same time.
  • Canister: Large homes can benefit from a canister vacuum with their large capacities. They also feature far-reaching stick attachments to clean areas like stairs and ceilings.

Filtration: One of the most important vacuum features to look out for is a HEPA filter. This helps capture fine particles and allergens—sometimes up to 99.99%—for an incredibly thorough clean.

Bag vs. Bagless: Some vacuums come with bags that seal dirt, while others are bagless and allow you to dump out the contents directly in the trash. If you’re prone to allergies, it could be helpful to go the bagged route so you aren’t exposed to the debris your vacuum picks up.

Attachments: For hard-to-reach corners and narrow stretches of floor, crevice and combination tools are some of the most helpful tools to have in your cleaning arsenal. Certain Amazon vacuums even come with unique attachments like pet nozzles specifically designed to remove dander and fur clinging to furniture and upholstery.
